Dance-titude

Children enjoying danceIf you are ready to dance and navigate the whitewater of change then you’ll enjoy the wave . You cannot stop the waves but you can learn to ride and balance on them Surfing is both skill and attitude. Skill because it takes craft and practice to ride the waves. Attitude because you have to accept that you can ride the wave, but you can’t affect it. Surfing is the perfect metaphor for dealing with change . It’s about flexibility and creative adaptability .You can’t control the waves you can only control your response to the waves and develop the skills to adapt to whatever comes your way.

Change is difficult but it’s our ever present companion in life .Imagine for a moment a large empty dance floor .As the music of life begins change invites us to dance .As change leads we follow. Although change is inevitable our first opposition is fear and refusal to dance .Our resistance to change is not always positive. What is it about the nature of change that causes us to instinctively to rebel against it and stand still ,when we are infact invited to dance .

Life is always a dance of yin and yang .Out and in , up and down , forward and backwards .A dance between possibility and change . It’s much easier to dance with change when we know the direction we are going. Having a vision or goal and a plan of how we want to achieve it allows us the opportunity to surrender to the process. When we tune into our inner compass of knowing the direction we are going, we are better able to adapt to the changes along the way with ease and grace.

That inner compass also tells us when to surrender, to let go, to shift gears or even choose a brand new path. To dance is to move–to go with the flow. It also requires a directing of the flow. When you dance with a partner, you must assume one of two roles. You are either a leader (directing the movement) or a follower (surrendering to the lead). If the lead is shy or unclear, the follower may feel lost or confused or assume the direction of their movement. It takes “two to tango,” as the saying goes. When each partner assumes his/her role with full attentiveness, their bodies merge like one. The benefits you receive via Dance-titude are highly personalized and unique to your own particular circumstance or the goal you have set for yourself. Your dancing is your agenda and whether you are willing to just "dance in the moment" and partner us in your journey, using creativity and a variety of tools. We are not confined or rigid in our dancing approach, in fact, we welcome your fluid dance .

While having a partner in life is wonderful and fulfilling, ultimately our life dance is a solo experience. Therefore, we each must continually assume both roles of directing and surrendering. In this work we learn to dance with change by harnessing the inner power of knowing when to direct and create a vision, when to surrender and when to balance with sameness–and when to trust that new pathways are always waiting for us to traverse. This program is not only developing a awareness of social and environmental issues but also is the about having the courage and understanding how to be a catalyst for positive change within your community or workplace.
